The bamboo at my parents’ house is taking over and needs to be cut back. In permaculture we say “the problem is the solution,” which is basically a way of saying “we have excess amounts of this resource; let’s figure out how to use it to our advantage.”

In this case I decided to feed it to the rabbits. Bamboo is a grass after all along with alfalfa. While the stems are too big for them to munch on, the rabbits seem to enjoy the leaves and small branches.
We get free rabbit feed and the rabbits get some more variety in their diet. Sounds like a win win to me.

Yes, my bunnies love bamboo, I think it is in part because they are fibrous and they like to chew, so they address that craving. I feed them daily a lot of bamboo leaves.
That sounds like a solid theory. Thanks for your comment!
