CERT Training (Community Emergency Response Team)

CERT Ty and Craig
Recently my buddy Ty and I completed our CERT training with the local fire department. CERT is the Community Emergency Response Team that assists the fire department during/after a large scale disaster such as the major earthquakes our region is expected to have in the near future.

Training consists of lots of PowerPoint, followed by hands on training in using fire extinguishes, first aid, lever systems, communications, search and rescue, and practical scenarios. They will also provide you with some basic emergency supplies, including the green vest and helmets shown in the photo.

Upon completion of the course you will receive an emergency worker card for the state of Washington.

Ty and I made a great team back in high school for DECA, FBLA, etc. and now 10 years later we are back at it in the community. Our mock search and rescue mission yesterday was to search for survivors in a 4 story building, then conduct a follow up search for a missing baby. It was pretty interesting.

If you’ve been looking to get involved in the community or just want to be more prepared to help your family in a time of crisis they have another upcoming class in April. It’s definitely worthwhile.

We both also recently received our amateur HAM radio licenses. You can pick up a BaoFeng Handheld for around $30 on Amazon.

If you are in the Pacific Northwest and want my handle shoot me an email.
