I’ve been looking into alternative building materials for the non-transparent panels of my geodesic greenhouse.
I came across this material after the startup Geoship announced that was what they would be using to construct their domes. Here is the video where the co-founder describes it. (9:57 time stamp) https://www.youtube.com/live/BUJNdJG74OM?si=_2u5NmC__4rFTQRZ&t=597
This was another example of a simple mixture that I found on YouTube
After knowing what they were using I did a deeper dive into the material.
The most comprehensive info I found about it was this article Magnesium Oxide Cement (greenhomebuilding.com)
I looked up the expert cited in the article (Michael Collins) on youtube and found three videos
Michael Collins with Natural Geopolymer Building Tour and Demo (youtube.com)
I attempted to email Michael Collins from the videos above at soilbloom9@gmail.com but didn’t hear back and his other listed email biotect@sonic.net bounced back as undeliverable. Would love to chat with him if he’s still around.
I still need to send an email to Kelly Hart after reading this follow up article
Magnesium Based Cement (greenhomebuilding.com)
Project Kamp had some great tutorials on their mix using magnesium oxide and potassium phosphate and water. They are in Portugal so sourcing the same materials is not gonna happen. Here is the link to their video https://youtu.be/BBZ44UC-XMk?si=E4PctOES-78Zy3cS&t=722
And here is the link to their research, Can we use magnesium oxide to replace Portland cement? (projectkamp.com)
There are still quite a few gaps in my knowledge, and I’m still struggling to source the materials in my area. Many of the links from these articles are now defunct.
If anyone has any further info they can share, I’d love to hear it. In particular I’m really looking for a course that I can attend that demonstrates the concept.
